Video Game Orchestra Concert - Final Fantasy
Friday june 12th I attented the concert "Final Fantasy" by L'Orchestre de Jeux Vidéo at the Pollack Hall in McGill University and it was very good ! OJV is an orchestra from Montréal who plays video game music. The concert was dedicated to the game Final Fantasy. I never played that game because I'm not a fan of RPG but I know the series. My girlfriend is a big fan of that game and I know the music, which is excellent !
The concert was very good. Not only the musicians' performance was excellent but the arrangements from Jocelyn Leblanc, the conductor, have exceeded my expectations. At the end of the concert they added two electric guitar and a drum to the wind orchestra ! We even got two encore. The atmosphere was really relaxed. It was really not a snob concert from a pretentious symphony orchestra. Between each piece, the intervention of the presenter was always relevant. He provided interesting information, in a very amusing way, about the piece performed, its context in the game and the Final Fantasy series in the history of video games.
Unfortunately, the experience was ruined by a geek a little too enthusiastic who was humming every songs and never stopped talking. But there's nothing I can do. I learned that in every event there's somebody who's not able to respect the others. It happened again today, I saw the piece "Oscar" at Théâtre du Vieux-Terrebonne and the old guy behind me was burping all the time !
Back to the OJV, if you're a fan of original classical music, video game music or both, check out the OJV concert calendar. The experience is worth the trip and the price. I paid only 15$ for the concert and 10$ for the CD. It is really cheap.
The orchestra is only one year old, but I predict they will have a long career. Long live the OJV!
